Academy Awards nominations revealed: ‘La La Land’ leads all noms

The 89th annual Academy Awards nominations were announced Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The musical “La La Land” scored a record-tying 14 nominations.  Directed by Damien Chazelle, the film garnered the most nominations including Best Picture, Actress in a Leading Role (Emma Stone), and Actor in a Leading Role (Ryan Gosling). The film also also recognized in 11 other categories, including Cinematography, Directing, Film Editing, Music (Original Score), Music (Original Song) Production Design, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Costume Design, and Writing, (Original Screenplay).

Arrival, directed by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Aaron Ryder and David Linde, is a nominee for Best Picture. These are the first Academy Award nominations for Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Aaron Ryder and David Linde. The film also received 7 other nominations, including Cinematography, Best Directing, Film Editing, Production Design, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and Writing (Adapted Screenplay).

Arrival gets 8 Oscar nods

‘Fences,’ starring Denzel Washington, Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson and Jovan Adepo earned a nomination for Best Picture. The film also received 3 other Oscar nominations for Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Actor in a Leading Role (Denzel Washington) and Actress in a Supporting Role (Viola Davis).
